J.M.S. Too Sick to Attend Worldcon!
Special Guest of Honor J.M.Straczynski, barely beginning to
recover from a bout with pneumonia, was forbidden to go to Baltimore
to attend Bucconeer due to the risk to his health this past weekend.
Yes, he's recovering but he might well have gotten much worse had he
defied his doctor and attended anyway. See his letter to the con
here: http://www.bucconeer.worldcon.org/jms.html

Star Wars 22nd Birthday Present
The official release date for Episode 1 of the Star Wars Prequel
Trilogy has now been moved to Friday, May 21, 1999 in North America.
The good news is this means that you have four less days to wait.
The bad news is that you may have very long lines. Lucas is going to
concentrate on a quality release, which means fewer screens, its
estimated 2,200 theaters as opposed to 3,200+ theaters for a normal
major release. Speculation is that Lucas is aiming at releasing
the prequel film in theaters hand picked for quality of presentation
encouraging more theaters to move to high quality THX digital theater.
With the limit in theaters, releasing the film a week before Memorial
day gives extra viewing days to allow all previous box-office records
to be broken by the end of the Memorial Day Holidays. - Thanks to Beth
Arganbright and Paula Seals for bringing this to our attention.
