On May 16, 2000, Harris County Commissioners Court approved the $3,966,000 contract awarded to Fireman Construction Company for the building of the Barbara Bush Branch.

Groundbreaking for the Barbara Bush Branch at Cypress Creek was held June 12, 2000 at the present Cypress Creek Branch building.

Compaq announced a $50,000 grant for the new library's computers at the ground breaking. Through the years, the former Compaq (now part of Hewlett Packard) showed its support of the Barbara Bush Library Friends with donations of books for the book sale, software for library computers, and two Compaq employees designed the BBLF Web page.

The Barbara Bush Branch at Cypress Creek, part of the Harris County Public Library system, first opened its doors to the public on December 18, 2002.
