Quick Tips: Netscape Supporting and Helper Applications

These are the supporting and helping applications I happen to have on my Macintosh Performa at home at this time to use in conjunction with Netscape Navigator.

Netscape Navigator is a *browser* program. In order to keep it as small a program as possible, it just does the basics. It handles files containing text, minimal graphics, and html code just fine. However, if a file is NOT in a text format, Netscape by itself is helpless to deal with it.

Thus, you may *plug-in* other software *application programs* to deal with files which are in an audio, graphics, or video format. When it says *Launch* in the listing below, the *plug-in* takes over and deals with the file on Netscape's behalf. When it says *Prompt User*, this generally means Netscape will be notifying the user that he or she will be getting this file in its raw code format because Netscape did not have the necessary plug-in for it to properly display the file. (It will, of course, unfortunately look like gibberish.)

Note that only four are labeled *Internal*. (These are the basic ones which Netscape comes from the factory with.)
